Let's start with a little bit about you
I grew up locally and began my apprenticeship in Campbelltown. Life threw me a curveball when my stepfather passed away, which led me to step away from the trade for a few years. Later, I returned as a mature-aged apprentice and completed my heavy vehicle apprenticeship in Cobar, Outback NSW.

Cobar is a red-dirt mining town; a very different slice of Australia. My time there was incredible; during the day, I worked on heavy vehicles, and by night, I juggled a few fun side gigs! I worked at the local pub, taught 50’s rock 'n' roll dancing, and even entertained at kids' parties as a clown. I can juggle balls and clubs, ride a unicycle, and make balloon animals - skills you don’t expect from your local mechanic!

Beyond mechanics, I’ve moonlighted as a cop on Home & Away, worked in film and TV, and run a slushy, fairy floss, and airbrush tattoo business - the list goes on!

These days, when I’m not under a car, I’m spending time with my wife and two kids, Millie (6) and Cove (1). We’ve made the Dilly our home and plan to stay for a long time.

And a little bit about your business?
Gazmech started humbly out of the back of an XR6 ute, with a toolbox strapped down. When COVID hit, I lost my job at a transport company, my night job at Thirlmere Pub, and all film and TV work was halted. That’s when I took the plunge and started Gazmech.

Growing up in housing commission and seeing my mum struggle gave me a deep understanding of how tough times can be. I’m passionate about helping customers who need a hand, and that’s a core value of my business.

My favourite part of Gazmech is helping people while still being able to attend my kids’ performances and milestones, that’s what success looks like to me.

Why did you choose Wollondilly?
We wanted to be close to our hometown but far enough to enjoy a country vibe where people know each other and say hello. After living in Cobar, we fell in love with that sense of community, and we love that it feels like this in Wollondilly.

What makes your business successful?
For me, success isn’t about making millions, it’s about working around my family life and enjoying what I do. I believe we’re successful because we take an easy-going approach, explain everything to customers regardless of their knowledge, and encourage questions.

Who has been a great influence for you or the business? And why?
My children are my greatest influence. I strive to be the man they think I am everyday in every interaction. I want them to see me doing good in the world. On a industry note, Cameron at Campbelltown Service Centre inspired me to be a good and honest mechanic and to keep going with my trade.

What are your proudest achievements?
Personally, my greatest achievements are my family and building our family house. On a professional level, one of my proudest moments was winning the Most Outstanding Mechanic award at the Local Business Awards in 2024.

Do you have any new plans for your business you would like to share or a dream for the future?
I’d love to upgrade to a new ute with big toolboxes and professional branding. One day, I hope to take on an apprentice to pass on my work ethic and skills. I’m also completing my certificate to teach auto mechanics at Picton High; sharing my passion with the next generation would be amazing.

Other than your own business, which Dilly business is your favourite?
Tyrepower Tahmoor and Mobile Service Centre (MSC) - great, honest and hardworking people and I enjoy our working relationships.

Where do you pick up your favourite takeaway in Wollondilly?
My favourite takeaway is Steve’s Pizza – 2 for 2 pizzas on a Tuesday!

What is a must see or do in Wollondilly and why?
Strawberry picking in Thirlmere. It's a very fun family activity and you get to eat the strawberries at the same time.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Hopefully with a couple of guys and girls working for Gazmech, living the dream with my family. I’d like to teach auto mechanics at Picton High and I am completing my certificate at present to do this.
