Highest quality metallurgical coal

Wollondilly is home to two major mining companies, Simec Mining and South32, which primarily produce metallurgical coal for steelmaking.

The product is transported to the Port Kembla Steelworks and the Port Kembla Coal Terminal by Appin Road and rail networks for export to domestic and international markets.

The companies are leading employers in the region with about 14 per cent of the workforce living locally. The operations have a tremendous impact on the economy, spending about $327.9 million with local businesses in FY2021, and investing more than $1.46 million in local communities.
