Picton Botanic Gardens Inclusive Playground & Amenities Upgrade

The extension and upgrade of the playground and the upgrade of the amenities building were identified as high priority projects during consultation for the Picton Parklands.

Funding for upgrades to the playground and amenities has been jointly provided by Commonwealth and the New South Wales Government under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements and the Public Spaces Legacy Program, and Wollondilly Shire Council.

AN INCLUSIVE PLAYGROUND
As outlined in Council's Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2022-2026 (DIAP), we will be incorporating universal design principles for the development of the playground concepts, which means we are designing the playground for everyone. Picton Botanic Gardens was identified in the DIAP as an outdoor place requiring improved accessibility.

OUTCOME
On 8 July 2024 the Picton Botanic Gardens playspace and amenities were officially opened by Mayor Matt Gould and Local Member for Hume Angus Taylor MP. The refurbished playspace includes a separate children’s and toddler’s play area with an adjoining walkway bridge. The playgrounds include water play and sensory elements along with traditional play equipment. The new amenities block is also completely accessible.
